Whitewater kayaking in the Poconos is an adventure-sport that delivers big on excitement and adrenaline. Our beginner kayaking classes make it a sport that even first-timers can enjoy.
Two-day beginner kayaking clinics are the standard format. The first day includes kayaking instruction on still water and introduces basic paddling strokes, focussing on boat control. You'll practice the wet exit, bracing skills, paddling in a straight line, turning a kayak, proper posture in the boat, and some of the basics of the Eskimo roll.
On your second day, it's off to the Lehigh River to practice beginner kayaking skills on a relatively short section of Class I and II whitewater. Here you'll focus on eddy turns, peel-outs, ferrying, rudering and surfing. Kayaking students who are interested can devote additional time to the Eskimo roll. The Lehigh offers a perfect environment of easy rapids and flatwater to practice your newly-learned skills.
More advanced kayaking instruction may be available by special arrangement. For more information about any of our Pocono kayaking clinics, ask to speak with our Kayaking Clinic Program Director (800-443-8554).
